2012 Closeout Pricing: How much off is good enough?

Hello there, newbie here. Our family test drove an E yesterday and we really liked it. Now we are juggling with a few dealers over price. One offer for a White Diamond Tricoat Leather model is approx 6.6% below MSRP and more than $2K less our other quotes so far.

With the 2013s coming in any day, I am wondering should we be content with that or keep pushing for the last dollar? Money IS an object

We live in the Washington, DC area, if that helps at all.

Thanks

2013 models won't be here until October sometime so there isn't a rush to clear them out yet.

www.truecar.com gives a pretty good benchmark for what is a good price. If you are a member of USAA, they will give you a price that the dealer should be willing to meet.

Truecar says $37,858 in my area, but I didn't know how good of a number that is. I think I might ask for a couple more bucks off, but I can probably live with that price. Thanks!

Re: 2012 Closeout Pricing: How much off is good enough?

When we purchased last year, we consulted edmunds tmv, buying service for Costco, also the credit union and AAA (they were lower than edmunds). I found that one thing got us $600 more than any of those prices/discounts--my big mouth!

And I'm sure that we could have done better, you always can. The salesperson will not entertain you with a counter-offer when you've gone too far. So how much off is good enough, it's really whatever you're comfortable, but I'd say at least 600-1500 less than whatever edmunds says.

The other thing to remember is the 2012's price was jacked, yet it was the same car. So the way I see it is unless my salary went way up for 2012 (my bonus was a joke i.e. what I consider small), then why should I pay a jacked price for something that is essentially unchanged? At least the 2011 had dexos spec'd over the 2010. So if it were me, I want 2011 pricing, whether I could get it is up to me and the dealership...

There's absolutely NO WAY anyone here knows if that is a good price. Period. Except for YOU. Did you want help? Probably not.

That's because did not give ANY information whatsoever on the details of the vehicle in question, which is like asking someone if $286,537 is a good price for a house. Gee, I don't know? THERE'S NO DETAILS.

You have to work up a price of a vehicle from the cost UP. So without knowing what's on it, you're on your own.

But, you can go with Truecar.com, so you're all set, right?

Hmm, that was....helpful? It's been a long weekend though, so point taken. Here is more information about the potential deal:

I'm looking at a 2012 White Diamond fwd leather with sunroof, no Nav, no towing, 7 pax. Everything else is standard.

M.S.R.P: $42,735

Edmunds TMV with incentives: $39,339.

Truecar.com: Listed above...$37,xxx.

Offer Price from local dealer: $36,060.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 2012 Closeout Pricing: How much off is good enough?

Understand I wouldn't ordinarily do this for a Wahoo but here's info on a unit.....perhaps the exact unit in question.....in your area of the world:

OURISMAN CHEVROLET BUICK GMC OF ALEXANDRIA
1800 OLD RICHMOND HIGHWAY
ALEXANDRIA, VA 22303-1858
(703)329-1300
VEHICLE INFORMATION
2012 Buick Enclave
White Diamond Tricoat
Cashmere, Perforated Leather Seating Surface
5GAKRCED6CJ260138
VEHICLE PRICING*
MSRP Standard Vehicle Price: $39,715.00
Installed Options Total: $2,195.00
Sunroof, Power : $1,400.00
White Diamond Tricoat : $795.00
Destination Freight Charge: $825.00
Total MSRP: $42,735.00
Preferred Pricing: $41,127.62
Consumer Cash: -$2,000.00
Employee Vehicle Allowance: -$3,500.00
You Pay: $35,627.62

That gives you a general idea what a GM Employee would pay for this unit before trade-in; however, you're not "entitled" to that entire $3,500 EVA (Employee Vehicle Allowance) discount. Keep in mind there may be additional unpublished discounts available to Employees (as was the case when I bought back in December 200.

All that said (and all other things being equal), my own 30 second analysis of the situation is that the listed $36,060.00 offer is pretty decent. If you like the unit in question.....are ready to buy now.....and feel decent about the dealer.....I myself don't think I'd spend a lot more time running around the Capital/dealing with your shitty local traffic just to find another couple hundred dollars that might not exist somewhere else.

But that's your call.

Hey! We Wahoos have always liked WVU. We are still chuckling about the thrashing you guys put on Clemson in the Orange Bowl. Never seen anything like it....

And yes, that is the exact vehicle we're looking at. Thanks so much for your help. I might throw a counter back at the dealer just to see if she'll bite, but I'd be happy with the $36K too. The wife, on the other hand, wants to squeeze blood from a turnip. I'll have a harder time convincing her to accept.

Thanks so much, you guys are awesome.

Re: 2012 Closeout Pricing: How much off is good enough?

Ah, well, my buying experience didn't go so well tonight. After "finding" the vehicle we wanted (2012 White Diamond Leather w/Sunroof, no Nav and 2nd row captains chairs) and agreeing to a price with the dealer that I was totally happy with, I packed up the family and drive 40 minutes across town in the rain to finish the deal....only to discover that the **** thing has the 2nd row split bench, not the captains chairs that we want. Somehow it was "mislabeled" in the system. This despite me asking the internet sales clerk TWICE did the unit have the specs that we wanted. I guess it was too much trouble to walk out onto the lot to check.

The rep and the sales manager are able to find a unit that matches what we want, but it is at another dealership "100 miles" away, and of course since it is not an "in stock" item, not all of the discounts that we had worked out apply, in addition to the unit simply having a higher MSRP. First they ask us to pay the $2200 difference. Nope. Then the sales manager says, "Let's split the difference: $37,000". Nope. I mean, it might still be a decent deal, but we couldn't walk out of there having paid $1200 more than we intended for the same car and still felt good about it. We countered with $36,600, but boss man said no. Cie la vie.

So, we're still on the lookout for that elusive white whale, uh, I mean, White Diamond Tricoat, but pickings are pretty slim in our region. Shame I didn't get the name of the dealer the guy was talking to.
