Which drivetrain does your Enclave have, and why did you pick it?

Re: FWD vs. AWD

FWD - picked for the following reasons:

$3,000 Cdn cheaper;
better gas milage;
less wear on tires;
fewer potential drivetrain problems.

Any concerns I had with traction in slush/snow/ice have been corrected with use of snow tires which will utilmately prolong the life of the regular tires

Re: FWD vs. AWD

AWD - here in West Virginia - the back roads are not cleared of snow - the Mileage is not that bad I am averaging 17 through the back roads and mountains. Highway I get 22-24. Rotating the Tires every 5K miles helps the tire longevity.

Re: FWD vs. AWD

FWD- Ditto IMHIP2 on reasoning,

Also purchased snow tires, Blizzak DM=V1 which are awesome. Feel much more confident with these tires with FWD, than I would if I had AWD with standard all weather tires.

+1.
Besides, what's wrong with a little sliding once in a while anyway?

Re: FWD vs. AWD

+2 to IMHIP2

Also I have driven both AWD and FWD vehicles for a number of years in a variety of conditions and storms, storms and more storms. The AWD has not demonstrated its worth over FWD for the type of driving I do. High quality snow tires on all four wheels are a must with FWD.

If we were required to drive in back country conditions that warranted AWD, that would have been my choice or I may have purchased a vehicle with true 4 wheel drive.

Re: FWD vs. AWD

FWD owner. I made the sale to my wife based off fuel economy. But the real hidden reason is that unless this AWD system is the HALDEX system used on the SAAB 9-3s (and Buick GS concept) it is not worth the extra cost nor is the system really meant to be pulling you through heavy Nordic snow. It really is more a watered down stability control device for wet, rain soaked roads. Couldn't (and didn't) bother to explain all the technical reasons why I was against the AWD system to the Mrs.

Re: FWD vs. AWD

got a better deal on the awd and it had more of what we wanted.

plus I live on the NJ/ PA border and gas is 15 cents cheaper in NJ so I just take a short trip and refuel.

Re: FWD vs. AWD

I live in TX. The AWD system, isn't really useful here, and good luck finding one on dealer lots.

I agree with all the front wheel drive positive comments and will add that it's 200 lbs lighter.
