Spark Plug change time... Anyone?

Hey all, I did a search on this and found nothing. If I'm wrong please merge.

Well it's come time to replace the plugs in our Enclave and I'm hoping someone else here has done it themselves... I called a shop here locally and they want 270 bucks to do it. Now I realize the plugs are all but hidden on the rear cylinders, but that seemed a bit high. I'm guessing the plugs are about 10-15 bucks each or 60-90 bucks and the rest is all labor.

Anyone have any tips? Even a tip like, DON'T DO IT! lol

Chris

Mine is at just over 95,000... I didn't see a post either... If one of the other forums has it, please let me know.

I wonder if it's one of those "dropping the engine" things.

Please report back on specifics if you do the work yourself. IE, is it a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 wrencher.

I would hope not; although the back side might need to be accessed from the bottom i.e. have it on a lift

Re: Spark Plug change time... Anyone?

OK so I delved into it tonight to see how bad it would be, and found it to be pretty easy. It's a little tight getting your arm over the intake and into the back head but it's pretty open once you get into it. The front ones are a breeze... I'll take pics of tools and the such as I go along as well.

I was quoted 270 bucks to do the work and I bought the plugs for $10.50 per plug. I went with Autolite XP iridiums Part# XP5263 The stock Delco's are made in Japan and these are actually made in the USA. HUGE plus IMO.

So I hope to get to this in the next day or so as my schedule permits.

Re: Spark Plug change time... Anyone?

excellent news.
Please do report back on the use of the autolites.

I say this because on the Trailblazer/Envoy forums--- people installed other plugs and noticed a performance drop.
The 4200 Vortecs inline 6-- worked much better with AC Delco Platinums and Iridiums.
(I think Denso were also OK)... but many owners were soon switching back to ACDelcos when the non AC plugs caused lower performance.

Re: Spark Plug change time... Anyone?

If they were losing enough power to actually notice, then something was a miss... I tend to go with stock plugs as much as possible after a HUGE ordeal I had with some of those Bosch 4 electrode plugs. I put them in my F-150 which by the way is a HUGE job and not one to do yourself... After doing it, I had a HUGE miss in one of the cylinders. I immediately bought Motorcraft and haven't had an issue since.

This LITERALLY look identical to stock only made in the USA and by Autolite. I'll keep ya'll informed on what I find and take pics if I can.

Cheers,
Chris
