Re: Nav Lockout By-Pass: Anyone try this?

Ctraz, the issues with the screens not allowing entry and some other navigation issues I thought were taken care of with the software update the dealer has to perform. I posted a document in my gallery "navigation software upgrade" to see if you have the current software you push "menu & seek up" at the same time and then click on the FM tab (sometimes you have to click on audio button) and right in the middle of the screen you should see your version (long number) - from what I have researched the 2008's should show 100F for the first 4 digits if the software is current, for the 2009 models it should show 101B. I highlighted everything yellow that pertains to the Enclave the crossed out items are for the cadillac. I had mine updated really didn't notice any big changes, but now my navigation doesn't do the occassional blank screen it had done a couple times since I owned the vehicle. I seen his concern was about items not being accessible while driving. This update fixes the items that may not be accessible while driving, like scrolling lists, address book, navigation entries like entering a destination.... I think that may be alot of work for a known software issue, because his work around does nothing more then allow entry while driving which is what this update says it fixes these software anomalies.

Re: Nav Lockout By-Pass: Anyone try this?

wyoenclave...with all due respect...are you sure this "software upgrade" disables the lockout while driving This is a serious legal issue that I doubt GM would disable. The new NAV software does disable the legal screen mumbo jumbo from appearing each time at start-up and now appears about every 50 vehicle starts but I have heard of no one on any GM forum stating that NAV lockout gets disabled during driving. This is why the aftermarket devices or the modification above are available on the market.

I think you need to recheck your facts on this one The way it functions for the rest of us is the way the manufacturers intended to prevent usage while driving and jeopardizing your safety while playing with your NAV. No different than not allowing your NAV to show you a DVD movie while driving...only works when the vehicle is in park. If GM did do this...I would be shocked as I am aware of no vehicle manufacturer that allows NAV usage while the vehicles in motion.

This is a new one for me but I will perform your "button test" and speak with my dealer just in case GM has totally lost its senses

Cableguy, also with all due respect, I agree with everything you said until not being aware of any manufacturer that allows NAV while in motion. My Honda Pilot did not lock out anything while driving...what a concept, I could change destinations or look for an old entry without having to pull over on the shoulder and risk getting run over by a semi....

Thanks bsox...learn something new every day. I had a 2006 Honda Odyssey and that did not let us do anything while driving. I know that manufacturers are paranoid about using NAVs while driving for liability issues. Interesting that Honda would allow. Maybe I should have bought a Pilot

Re: Nav Lockout By-Pass: Anyone try this?

I just checked out the link...this is great info...I really think this is what I have been looking for and am heading to Radio Shack after work today. What a simple solution to an aggravating problem. I just have to figure out where to mount the switch. I want a more inconspicuous place to mount it. I think maybe on the drivers side of the center console, short wires and just a small hole to drill in the plastic, the switch should blend right in...

No, been there done that...I am almost positive Toyotas are not locked out either...at least a guy riding with me one day who has a Toyota Nav was going crazy with mine in that he could not do anything with it while we were driving and said he could in his Toyota. Also was in a friends Lexus and he was using it while we were moving. I actually think this is a GM deal.

I am assuming the wire harness and wires are all the same across the GM system...anyone else think differently?

My boss' Ford Edge doesn't allow inputs during driving either....AND he gets the "legaleze fine print" screen which he must "accept" before he can use the NAV with every vehicle start-up.
