drivers side seat heater kaput!

Just had my 2010 Enclave in for service and had been noticing the driver's side seat heater would only stay on for about one minute. Repair person said there was a fault indicating high resistance/impedance in the seat heater and that both the back and the bottom heaters would need to be replaced. $1189.56 for one seat! It should go without saying that this is unacceptable and a huge strike against GM when I purchase my next car. Very, very disappointing on a four year old car, and just when I thought GM was getting their act together.

Our 02 Old Silhouette has gone withou our drivers side seat heater working since the day we bought it. I cannot justify 1,000.00 for this kind of repair.... We didn't figure it out until it was cold out and decided to use it.

Re: drivers side seat heater kaput!

If you could find out the part numbers for the heat elements you could just buy them and replace them yourself. Even if they are charging highway robbery prices I don't think they should cost more than $100 each.

I believe we were paying about $20 each for the elements for the Dodge Ram truck when I was working for Lear Seating. Dealer markups are astronomical on parts.

I found the silhouette seat heat element on ebay for $41.75
Did not find Enclave elements.

Re: drivers side seat heater kaput!

The car is actually just out of it's bumper-to-bumper warranty; we bought it December 2009, but it has 53K miles on it. The seat heater was described by the repair person as just a heating blanket which begs the question: Why does it cost $1200? Anyway, I'm still considering my options as I'm a big maintainer of my cars, but that is a lot of money.
