It first happened about a month ago. I had just left home, and was waiting at a red light. Suddenly, the Enclave - well, I can't really describe it - kind of rolled back to front, like a K-Mart 25-cent horsey ride. I thought maybe someone had bumped into my rear bumper, but I heard nothing and felt no impact - just the rolling - strong rolling. I thought maybe it was an earthquake, since it was a rolling motion - forward and backward, up and down, but not side-to-side. But the light changed right then, and I drove on in a state of wonderment, not really sure what I had experienced.

Well, it happened again this afternoon. I had just left work, and was waiting for a red light to change. Again, suddenly, the same strong rolling forward and back and up and down. The light remained red, so I was able to feel it for several seconds. Well, maybe three seconds. I again thought maybe I was being pushed by a car from behind. But it was very strong - the E felt like it was lurching forward with each rock-and-roll. I was able to "drive" forward about five feet before I got too close to the car stopped in front of me, and the rocking stopped. This time, because it lasted longer, it felt stronger. The light changed, and I drove away, onto the freeway, and home.

I have never in my long life felt anything like this. It's like someone is jumping up and down on my rear bumper; like I'm being bumped/pushed by a car from behind; like the K-Mart horse. The only thing the two incidents have in common is that it happened within the first 5 minutes of driving, and that it was at a red light.

I have never heard anyone else describe this or anything like this. Does it sound familiar to any of you? In 5 weeks, I'm taking a 3000 mile trip. Should I be worried?

Were there any strong wind gusts at the time of these occurrences?

Maybe then, the car's nose was not plugged, and it was trying to get away. Cheesy

Are you sure it wasn't an earthquake?

No chance we would feel a 3.0 from California clear up here. And there have been no news reports of one in our area.

It's kind of funny, but really is a concern to me. I've never had anything like that happen, and never have heard of it!

I would be concerned.  Have no idea what would be causing that.  Did the engine rev up any during that time?  Probably not, but well, the shocks are not depending on any computer controls so it can't be that.

I have been stopped on small overpass bridges that bounce due to other traffic.

I think the engine revved some, which is what caused the lurching. Both times, I was parked at a red light in traffic, so really couldn't take time to try to figure it out right there. My automatic reflex was to step harder on the brake since it felt like it was trying to jump forward, hence my feeling that the engine was revving. It wasn't audible, however...

I have felt that, too. There is a bridge near here that really seems "loosey-goosey." But I was on solid ground. My recent experience was not totally unlike the bouncing bridge feeling, except for the feeling that the car was trying to go someplace!

Interesting as it reminds me of when an engine is cold, really cold, and when you start driving and come to a stop it is tends to lurch.  Although that most generally occurs with standard shift vehicle.  I do know that my pickup truck would do that on occasion until the engine warmed up enough.

The Enclave doesn't have auto leveling shocks does it?  My Bonneville does, which you can hear after you start the car, but I've never heard it with the E.

Yup, that's freaky alright.

ONCE, could have been your imagination; but twice. . .

Well, it can't lurch forward unless the engive revs, so rule that one out.

Have you got animals nesting in the engine compartment?

How about underneath the back bottom of the vehicle?

New meds kicking in? (I'd like some of those please)  Grin

Loved the thread title after reading what it entailed. You know, with springtime on the way and all that stuff. Horses get the smell of fresh oats growing outside of their fenced-in area (this happens due to when they eat and then slobber the oats into their drinking water buckets, then we dump the water out and the oats grow when the snow melts), and they will rare up and get a running start to jump that fence to get to those delicious green oat shafts that grew.

That last part has nothing to do with your car, just a quick piece of info in relationship to the thread title.  wink
