As of Jan 1'st, Ontario got hit with the new carbon tax.

From what I have read, they still don't know what exactly they are going to do with the extra money ... perhaps new limos for the politicians  eyebrow

Kind of reminds of me of the tire tax from years ago ... now where exactly did that money go ... a mystery ... certainly not to roads as intended.

The government must think we are all made of money and are fools  Bang Head

I'm surprised nobody has been with with a tax collection tax yet. Grin

Jaw Drop Wow! That's high!

I saw $2.15 for regular this morning at Costco. Premium was only $2.41. Not bad considering the recent $0.23 per gallon tax hike in NJ.

The local Sam's Club had regular today for $1.92.

The price difference to step up to the premium was the highest I have seen.  It was posted at $2.50, a difference of .58 cents.  I had never seen it in this area for more than a .50 cents spread.

The wholesalers and/or retailers are making money hand over fist while ripping off the consumer.  Many new cars with turbos require premium and many people use premium only because the think its better gas, so the demand is growing. Bang Head blob

Is the demand for premium actually growing? It seems that more of the cars that I've paid attention to in recent years have switched to or maintained the indication for regular grade gasoline. But, I haven't paid much attention to the auto industry as a whole, so maybe my impression is skewed.

Compression ratios are, in general, going higher. This means some of those vehicles may recommend premium. There are a lot more turbos the past 5-10 years and these almost exclusively must use premium, with the exception of the F150 3.5 ecoboost (not sure about the 2.7 eco). Ford figured most F150 owners would be too cheap to buy premium so they tuned it to run on regular.

seeing more stations hit the $3.00 per gallon mark.

Finally heard what is causing it in Southern California.

1)some hiccups at a refinery.

2)they are selling gas to Mexico- causing a slight drop in availability.  ( while I was driving in Mexico in December,  there was a shortage of fuel and then on Jan 1- the price of gas rose overnight- to the equivalent of $3.00 per gal.

$2.11 at the Kroger's near me this morning at Marco Lane/Sheehan Road.

I haven't been out in a while, not since before Christmas, plus 2 trips to the doctor last week.  Bronchitis/pneumonia...

Anyway, so I have no actual idea on what the gas prices are, unless I look at GasBuddy.

Have a great weekend.....
