We are getting a good amount of wind noise at the top of both side doors at the center post as well as along the tops of the two front doors.  The dealer said the noise is normal.  However in a high crosswind you can hear whistling noise at these two places.  Any thoughts?  Are we hearing wind hitting the roof rails?  Poor door molding?  Thanks

Other than a few small things our Enclave is just great.

Now you see, THIS is the type of blatent lying to the customer that just pisses me off lately. Diplomacy doesn't work with these morons, so you have to take drastic measures in order to get their attention, mostly so they'll stop doing it to people and start doing their f'n jobs, as I mentioned in a previous thread.

I don't know, maybe accidentally jam a staple into the back of their hand (using THEIR stapler, or barking out obscenities at them (because you have Tourette's Syndrome, of course, and couldn't control it), or tell them "Why would you tell me that when your North East Regional Service Manager (or, wherever you live) told me to come and see YOU, and you'd get me fixed up."

You just need to catch them off guard, to wake them up. If that doesn't work, you report them as another dreg of society posing as a GM Dealer, then find someone else. But don't forget to report them, because we need to nuke the dregs.

I had that problem when my '08 was new - only in a strong crosswind. My dealer adjusted the door twice, and finally cured the problem. I haven't had wind noise for over three years.

Well had that happen today.  We were on I-70 and a strong cross wind was creating a very loud whistling in the front passenger door.  Guess I need to have Reichard look at it when I head up there within the next week for an oil change.

Has anyone experienced wind noise from the sunroof. I notice when I was driving the E the other day we had a little noise from the direction of the sun-roof.

Perhaps a couple of times each year, I notice a whistling wind noise through the driver's side door. Since it happens only a couple of times per year, I have ignored it. wink

The cross rails add some wind noise and more so if they are positioned wrong. I believe they should be lined up with the depressions on the outside of the chrome rails.  I was thinking of taking mine off while not using them as soon as I figure out how to pop off the rear chrome/plastic cap without breaking it.

True, there have been numerous reports of additional wind noise from the optional roof rack cross rails, especially when not positioned properly. I haven't heard any complain about wind noise from the door seals and the cross rails, yet. That would be extra annoying.

I was thinking of taking mine off while not using them as soon as I figure out how to pop off the rear chrome/plastic cap without breaking it.

Very easy to do.  I took mine off right after we got the vehicle (sorry I don't have any pictures but that was 2 years ago):

1) Get a small screwdriver into the slot at the bottom of the rear cap.  Carefully pry it off.  Do the same to the other side.
2) Loosen the screws that allow the crossbars to move forward and backward.
3) Slide the crossbars out the rear.
4) Pop the caps back on.

That's about it.  A few things that make it easier:
-- The crossbars slide out easier if you remove the endcaps from the roof of the vehicle (after you pop the chrome caps off there are 2 screws holding each endcap down).
-- Label the crossbars when you take them off.  The front one is a different length than the rear one and if you decide to put them back on they won't fit if you get them mixed up!

Thanks sklunk.  Seems like they could've made it easier to do (i.e. without removing end caps), but sounds like not a real problem.

OK, confirmed significant wind howling last night when I drove the Enclave, for the first time with a thin coating of snow on the roof.  The change in airflow caused the cross rails to howl at all speeds above 20 and increase in volume with speed.  I opened the sunroof to the vent position to change the airflow over the roof and it stopped immediately.  The rails are in the correct factory position (aligned with the outboard indents in the chrome side rails).  I'll be taking them off.

Sklunk, I didn't notice any slot in that rear end cap.  Do you pry it off from the rear of the end cap or from the front or side?

There's not really a slot you can see -- just get a small screwdriver or knife into the area where the chrome cap meets the black base.  If you do it carefully the cap will eventually pop off.

Also, I think I forgot a step.  There may be 1 or 2 small "star-head" screws holding the base down to the roof (it's been a few years so I don't really remember  confused).  If you remove those it makes the process easier.

OK, the cross rails have been removed.  Seems like sliding them off the back is the hard way to do it since the front rail is so much longer than the back and doesn't compress any shorter than it is.  After I got one off, I noticed two screws and a slot on the right ends of each.  You can loosen the screws, but they are already at the end of the slot.  Now I'm thinking removing those screws and dismantling the end is the way to go instead, but didn't try it.

Removing the end caps was easy without tools.  You can grab it on the inside forward edge and lift it up.  When off, the clips holding it look like this (though the gold clips stayed with the chrome cap on the other side when removed).  You have to remove the forward clip if it stays on the base as it prevents the rail from sliding back all the way.  I did remove the two screws holding each bracket to the roof at the rear as well as one on each side near the rear edge of the rear skylight (mid rail).

Thanks.

I've been thinking about it a bit more and it's clear to me now that the crossrails are supposed to be removed through the front, not the back. The front track caps are very long and likely harder to remove but that would allow you to loosen the crossrail slot screws (top photo), allowing the cross rails to expand as they're slide toward the front and out.

I, too, am experiencing the noise. It not some kind of a typical wind noise, so, I thought it could not be the position of the crossrails but I did repositioned them anyway..and the noise is still there.
What I am hearing is actually a whistling noise that indicates there is a very slight leak just enough for the wind to enter and create that high pitch sound..similar to whistling, if you open your mouth too wide you can't produce it, if you open it just enough, you can whistle.
I'll have it checked when my oil change is due. I can still live with it.
