Old and New

« on: February 05, 2017, 09:54:45 AM »

My 2014 E navigation is out of date and no update available. I know this because of miss direction I get at the intersection of I65 & I74 in South Indianapolis, also in Charlotte NC it doesn't know where to guide me because of the new roads. Sucks when you can't trust it and I end up running around surface streets trying to get back on course. I guess I need to get a new smart phone.
My rant for the day.

My experience also. I have had 4 cars with nav systems, and they all have been out of date almost immediately. I don't understand why auto manufacturers can't have up-to-date systems like in phones. Not only are they out of date, but ridiculously expensive to update to a slightly less out-of-date version.

I've found that if you update a factory gps, the 2017 update actually has 2016 data.

I've never had a factory navigation system in any of my cars until recently when my wife purchased a 2016.5 Mazda CX5. She seems to be happy with it, but I've never looked at it because I've driven her car only once. My understanding is that it is SD card based, so it is likely 2015 or 2016 map info.
