Hi,

Took my 2009 Enclave to jiffy lube to get my oil changed. Was told that my front diff fluid needs to be changed, and that it looks like there might be a leak. I thought it was weird that they would suggest a fluid change when there's possibly a leak?!

Went below to have a look. it looked wet around the transfer case. I did notice a fluid stain in my driveway front right side.

I can hear a slight whirr or grind when turning. So I guess the diff is leaking?

Anyone hear of these types of issues? Would diff fluid 'travel' to where the transfer case is?

Thanks!

Got it looked at by a mechanic. Said to wash underneath then drive fir a day or 2 then bring in. This is so he can tell where the leak is. Below are photos of it, can anyone tell where the leak is? I was planning on driving a bit today, anyone think this would be an issue?
Thanks!

yeah- without looking at it very closely-- its hard to tell.
thats one of those creeping type of leaks where it spreads....

washing and monitoring is probably the right course.

Thanks for the reply!

If it's transmission fluid that's leaking would the CEL be on? I guess I need to park on a level surface and check the trans dipstick.

Should be ok to drive if trans fluid OK?

should have a red tint to it...

Trans fluid also has a very distinct smell.

It should be ok to drive... unless its leaving the undercarriage literally wet with fluid....

just make sure your fluid level is ok.

Trans fluid level is fine. Will take in tomorrow to see where the stains are....now that I think about it.... I did refill a bit of oil a while back, and didn't have a funnel.  Did spill some....fingers crossed!

I'm planning on changing some fluids (brake fluid partially exchanged last week using turkey baster method) very soon such as my transmission and rear diff, and possibly my transfer case.  Does anyone have any pics of the fill and drain holes for the rear diff and transfer case and where one would look for these?  Also, what size is the bolt?

Transmission drain plug is quite easy to spot and even easier to do a drain and fill so I've read.

I plan on using Mobil Dexron VI for my trans, and have picked up a quart of Royal Purple 75w90. Not sure if I'll use that in the transfer case, or the rear diff. as I've read they both take the same fluid.  If I can find a quart of Amsoil Severe Gear (not readily available here in Canada), then I'll use that for my rear diff, otherwise I may have to use RP for both.

Thanks RB, did a lot of reading on the Acadia forums...  One more question, is there a FRONT differential also that requires fluid?   Does that make 3 different points: Front Diff, transfer case, Rear diff?

hmmmmmm

I have FWD... so not sure exactly--

But the AWD units-- have the trans, the transfer case attaches to trans and does its thing- and the rear unit---

so I guess the transfer case is the one that also needs the fluid change...
