My 5 week old 2010 now has a cracked chrome strip on the front bumper!  I can't hardly believe it.  I've been the only driver so I'm kicking myself.  It must've cracked when I nudged the tire of the lawn tractor when pulling into the garage.  I wouldn't think that ought to crack a bumper trim!  If the crack wasn't smack on top of the bumper where it reflects light two different directions, I'd perhaps ignore it as best I could but that isn't going to happen.

Is it easy enough to replace the chrome strip yourself without having to kill a day at the body shop?

The part illustration on the GM website for the chrome strip looks odd.  It must have a lot of backplate body to it.  gmpartsdirect shows the chrome strip to be $92.54.  It's part #6 on the illustration below.  I'd ask for recommendations on how to prevent cracking of the chrome strip but I think I already know the answer - - - just don't run into anything, no matter how soft it might be!  I could do without the chrome trim on the bumper if it meant that a more flexible peice could be used.

If someone has done the job on their own, I personally have not seen a post regarding such...

From what the folks on this string indicate, it's about a half-hour job at most... Given that, if you don't feel like taking a crack at it, you should be able to schedule an appointment & wait on it rather than drop it off for a full day...

Enclave111...there's a bit more to it than you may want to tackle...I watched it being done.  Takes a body shop less than an hour to remove bumper cover, remove strip, reinstall new strip and reinstall bumper cover.  There are staples that need to be removed and for <$50...I would just let them do it so you don't make things worse.
