Maybe the rim's relatively delicate chrome cladding was damaged by a surface smooth enough not to scuff the tire's sidewall even if the tire had made contact as well, such as a metal capped sidewalk curb.

Since she drove OVER the curb, my guess is that when she came off it slipped off on a weird angle pushing the rubber inward and scraping the wheel.  Bleh... Cry

Architect, have you decided what to do regarding the scratched rim?

No, not yet...I'm just sort of blocking it out of my mind!   Undecided

I'm going to ask the dealer about it next time we have it in....

My wife has taken a couple of the covers on my 09 Malibu to the curb woodshed, so I too understand the problem.

Cheap, those chrome-clads are just plastic painted chrome?  Guess I'm glad we have the painted silver WHEELS, not chrome "covers" over wheels.

The only people who think these wheels look "cheap" are the people who don't have them.  That says alot!

I don't think they look cheap, I think they look great....as long as you don't touch a curb with them....all is good.

I have seen a few Enclaves with the new chrome clad wheels, and I think that they look great. Long term durability may be a different issue, though.

I love the new 20" chrome-clad wheels on my 2010 CXL-2...they look fantastic and are super easy to keep clean versus older "real" chrome wheels I have had in the past...like my 07 Denali and 08 Enclave.  To me, it makes total sense to clad due to finish reliability issues especially in snow bound areas where salt is used on the roads.  We had a hell of a winter here in the Baltimore/Washington area and some simple washing get's them looking factory new Cheers

+1 for us 18" painted wheel-ers!  Lower maintenance costs, better look, and more structurally sound!  As I like to say it a win-win-win situation!

My brother has 20" chrome-clad wheels (245/50s) on his new Ford Edge... They look fantastic, but the ride is a bit truckish...
