There are also steering shaft issues; I haven't taken the time to read those articles. Can anybody say "Toyota sucks"?  Evil

I do hope that Ford and GM make a heyday of this opportunity.

In related news, the following automakers announced revised slogans:

1) Ford - Drive One. Seriously......we let YOU drive the car....not the other way around.

2) GM - Compare our cars to anyone. Take a test drive. Push the accelerator pedal and our car "moves forward" faster. Release the accelerator pedal and our car slows down. May the Best Car Win!

3) Honda - We never wanted to be No. 1.......and we still make darn good cars!

Hmm, maybe Honda should re-think that new advertising slogan I came up with for them.

Maybe you could have suggested, "Honda, our cars are hot".  Hot

Here is an interesting alert. According to one of our members, thetruth, the problem may not be due to the gas pedal. In fact, the exact cause of the issue, and even if the unexpected acceleration is actually real is being questioned in a YouTube  expose style report by thetruth. Watch the video, reflect a bit on the statements being made, and let me know what you think.  Huh?

First I don't think I would be taking the pedal out of the oven with my bare hands after it had been in there for 20 minutes at 250.

Otherwise I would agree, it is not the peddle itself.  My uneducated guess would be some electical gremlin or programing glitch that is linked to the drive by wire system throttle system.  When did these drive by wire systems start to become more prevelant?  Around 2005.  Probably not exclusive to Toyota either.

I enjoyed the thought provoking expose, but I am a bit dubious about the pedal being baked at 250oF since it seemed too easy to grasp barehanded right out of the oven. Hmmm...  Huh?

My in-laws are in town from Florida, and have given me a status report about their '07 Camry. Apparently the parts for the gas pedal recall were made available by Toyota about three weeks ago, but the dealer claims that they have not received the order yet. My in-laws claim to have experienced a few instances of unexpected acceleration or surging momentarily recently, so they are eager to get the recall service performed. However, they are aware of the growing chatter about the possibility of electronic causes for the problem, so they are a little doubtful that Toyota's "fix" will work. Additionally, they have had a few occasions in which friends and relatives have made some sincere and/or joking comments about a fear of riding in their car, which is the last thing that they want to hear right now.

My MIL also claims that her engine had started spotting oil in her driveway lately, but that the dealer repaired the leak under warranty.

At this point, they have lost confidence in their Camry, but with only 37,000 miles on the odometer they will keep it until they can afford to replace it. But, when it comes time to get a new car, they claim that it will not be another Toyota.

Interestingly, my MIL commented on how nice the new LaCrosse looks. It looks as if she may become a Buick convert. About five years ago, she was very impressed with a Buick Regal that she rented for a week when she was in town, so her next car may really be a Buick.
