Parts of Texas was slammed today. NWS Amarillo says they just got a 75-mph gust from the anemometer at the Amarillo airport. Hurricane force gust!

Two part snow storm moving through the central Plains and will be moving into the Midwest and Great Lakes over the following days.

On the warm side of the system, several supercells have fired with some tornado warnings already in effect for areas in Louisiana. A tornado watch is in effect for portions of Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi until 8pm. The threat does exist of stronger tornadoes if storms can remain discreet. If you live in the area, stay weather aware! A tornado watch is in effect for portions of Florida until 8pm as well

On the cold side of the storm system, blizzard conditions are ongoing over portions of Oklahoma, Kansas and the Texas Panhandle. Many areas have already seen 10"+ of snow accumulation with 40+mph winds creating nearly impossible travel conditions. Winter storm warnings stretch up into Illinois, where 6-8" of snow can be expected. Winter storm watches stretch up into Michigan and over into Ohio and Indiana. Definitely a large system slowly trekking it's way through the U.S!

We are even seeing the effects in Sebring FL. Cloudy, breezy 82 degrees, and just started to sprinkle enough I had to come in from having my last morning cup of coffee on the deck!  I might be forced to stay inside today and not be able to go to the pool!  Angry

Oh Yea....sure is.  I've been really lucky and was able to retire 1/1/07.  Now I'm too busy to have a job.

It is! I retired almost 10 years ago @ 53 and don't know how we had time to work, have some fun, save money, and raise a family! One of my best friends is retireing tomorrow (2/28) and we intend to travel more and be even busier.

Retirement is getting up in the morning, not knowing what you are going to do;
then realize when going to bed you are only half done!

(Obligatory topic material - we are bracing for low to mid 60's this weekend with night time temps in the low 40's.  Oh No  Thought Y'all would like to know that!)

Anyone in Ohio/Indiana/Kentucky interested in weather spotter training?  Here is the schedule by state/county.

http://www.weather.gov/iln/spottertrainingschedule

Spring is approaching and that means greater chances of tornadoes.

Also OSU has a Severe Weather Symposium on the books for this month.  Now this should be very interesting.  That is if you are into weather watching.

Just because the ground hog saw his shadow doesn't mean good weather ahead.

Anyway it is snowing right now, enough to cover the grass.  Next week....rumor has it we could get up to 6" of that white stuff with more for the following week.

I think....someone was fooling us and shining a spotlight on the groundhog in order for him to see his shadow.

Snow did arrive last night.  These shots were taken from my living room window within the last 15 minutes.  Schools and WPAFB are closed today.

I wonder just where in the hell that groundhog is at!   Huh?

what a difference to So Cal.
thats where the groundhog is relaxing...

The pic below was this past Sunday- 76 deg.
Grass is green- trees in pic have sprouted their leaves- for several weeks.
Grass has been mowed- as you can see the muddy prints on the cement. (local high school).

But I took this pic- because someone on the Equinox forum said the manual states 195 ft remote fob distance.
But I parked the Nox wayyyyyy in the distance-- the silver vehicle by the bushes... and measured the FOB distance.
I was able to remote start the vehicle from 739 feet (GPS  watch)
