Cooled seats intermittently not working

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue?

Wife and I get into the Enclave today and she turns on the seat coolers on both seats. Fan appears to be working in both seats but not real strong and neither seat appear to be cooling. We shut both off and try the heaters which both worked great. A few minutes later we put both coolers back on and fans are blowing stronger and they are both cooling very well, for a few minutes, then both seat backs stop cooling and just the bottoms appear to be cooling.

Thanks

I have a similar problem in my 2012 in that both fans for the front seats are working but no air is coming through. It all worked a few months ago when I went on my last trip. In fact it worked so well that the high setting was too cold. Took it into the dealer and they are now waiting for parts. will be interesting to hear what the problem was.

An update to my last message. After I dropped the car off at the dealer I called GM and explained the problem to them. When I dropped off the car I also told the dealer I felt the AC was under performing and needed looking at. I was informed I would be charged for the AC diagnostic check.

The dealer's shop foreman later called and informed me the seats do not have the ability to cool but instead pull air from the floor and vent it out through the perforations in the seat. If the cabin temperature does not cool properly then the seat cooling doesn't work properly either. The AC evaluation showed I was down a pound of freon which accounted for the under performing AC.

As the dealer could not locate the leak they added a dye to make it easier next time if the system looses freon to locate the leak. The dealer covered the cost under the existing warranty. I can't say for sure but I suspect GM's intervention may have sparked some proper diagnostic work which could have saved a lot of cost and time.

Paul, thanks for updating. To date I have not gotten mine fixed. Funny that you mention you had an issue with the A/C system in yours. I too complained to my dealer about the rear air not working properly in mine.

After they looked at it they told me the same about the seat coolers but they said the rear air was working properly. That the front air system does most of the work and that the rear will not blow as cool as the front.

Funny thing is when I went there I brought a thermometer with me and showed them that the rear air is putting out 79 degs when it is set for 70 degs. They looked at it again only to say I didn't have the controller set on 70 that it was set on 75 degs! :banghead: I showed this to them in their service bay. This excuses came in the next day and a different drive cycle. That evening I had them bring a similar Enclave from their lot into the service bay next to mine and it was cooling great! I now know I am getting no where with this dealership! When you have to hire an attorney to get your car fixed I guess they are a little butt sore.

After picking it up the rear air is working great again. I suspect they did top the charge off when they told me that there was nothing wrong. I have no reason to trust them. The second and third time i took it in for the issue of it going into limp mode and all the dash lights lighting up. I was able to scan codes from both events but both times the dealership tried to deny any codes present! It had stored 2 codes on the third event and I took pictures and sent them to my attorney. They still tried to deny them until they checked the history codes stored. :banghead:

In the beginning I felt really good about my dealership, until this vehicle started throwing issues that they can not fix.

Sounds like time to call GM and get another dealership to care for your car.
Hard to believe this from a 'good' dealer.

Just a further note on this. Once I contacted GM they were in touch with the Service Manager immediately. A few days later I got a follow up call from GM to see if everything had been corrected to my satisfaction. The advisor gave me her name and phone extension and if there future issues I should call her. A very nice service approach. OnStar could definitely take a page from the GM Service advisor procedures.

Paul You may have AC in the rear now but if your system was down a pound You have a leak some where. Most likely the rear evaporator. your problem will return I have had this same problem . They gave me the same stories After going back to the dealer 3 times they finally agreed there was a problem Changed out the rear evaporator and plenty of cold air now for 7 months
