Hi, I'm new to the forum and am in desperate need of some help. I had a master ase certified technician replace the timing chains in my Buick. It has 153,000 miles on it. The chains had stretched but not jumped time. After the install the car would not run right. It just don't have any power. The code it had indicated a bad crankshaft Position Sensor. So he replaced it. It didn't make any change to how the car run. Any ideas or things that needs to be checked at this point? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Yes it's keeps setting P0420 & P0430. Everytime I have a technician look at it a day a part is bad and they replace it they clear the codes and they come right back in a few miles. I'm going to smoke test the exhaust this weekend to see if I have an exhaust leak. Then if not, I don't know what else to do. I don't have a good dealership in my area and am afraid to take it to one because they will take advantage of me because they didn't do the work to start with.

Hey! I have a 2011 col. It has been nothing but a problem. $7,000 in now replaced everything. Just been diagnosed as needing a new torque converter. Mechanic said these GMs were notorious for having those issues. Just to tell you what mine is doing: stutters, slow to accelerate, crazy RPMs, and bad fuel mileage. This will cost another $2,800 to fix. Sell it if you can. I cant get rid of mine because after replacing almost everything, I've got too much money in it now.
OIC on the cam phasers. They would have/ should have been checked when the covers were off. Check those VVT solenoids and if necessary, after that, the intake valves for carbon buildup.

You keep saying solenoidS with an s on the end indicating there is more than 1, how many are there?
Don
I do believe it is two, Bank 1 and Bank 2. There are a few Youtube videos for accessing, and or changing them.
Also the manual doesn't recognize VVT could they be called something else?
Could it be Camshaft Position Actuator solenoid?
Ok, I kept asking and recommending my technician about things to see if he had checked them. He's very stubborn and don't want help when he thinks he knows what he's doing. The day I was going to get the car and take it somewhere else because he had it about a month before starting on it. He told me he was starting on it that day. Three days later he sent me a message saying the chains are in but the car still won't run. First thing I asked him is have you checked the catalytic converters. I never heard back from him so I figured he checked them. After 2 months of him diagnosing it and putting expensive part on it I asked him again. I said "stupid guestion???, Have you checked the catalytic converters? About an hour later he sent me a picture of a convertor and a message that there bad. Well, he put cheap converters on it and it kept setting P0430 & P0420 codes. So I went and got the car. I had name brand converters and 02 sensors put on it. The codes went away. A 100 or so miles down the road it set a P2099 code. I had a muffler shop put the 02 sensors and the Converters on. The code came right back. I've cleaned and checked everything everyone has told me to clean or check. I'm worried the car will ruin my 02 sensors or catalytic converters. Anyone have any comments or ideas for me to do. I broke down and asked a dealership how much for them to take one hour labor to diagnose it. They said $80 and it will be next week before they can do it. I'm not sure but it may be either the best or worse $80 I've spent on it.

Ok. I am also a former ASE certified tech and Buick Master tech (30 years ago). The 3.6 has a complex timing chain setup. There are 2 phases of timing belt setup on the 3.6. Your after market CATs probably do not have the right amount of catalytic material. I used Walker Exhaust components, including 02 sensors, when replacing the CATs on our 2011. The 02 sensor is critical in communicating with the PCM to provide proper air/fuel ratio. I assume that the throttle body has been thoroughly cleaned. There are ways to get that CAT check engine light out, however, I recommend you find a really good technician that is very familiar with the scanner especially with "Live Data".
