2014 Enclave - rear AC not blowing cold

Hi,

Rear AC of my Enclave is not blowing cold air. Is this the $1500 rear evaporator gone bad? 2014 - 88,000 miles.

I live in the Northern part of the USA, so it doesn’t get too hot here. Any problems with not fixing this? Front still work pretty well and keeps the entire car mostly cool.

thanks in advance,

Mark

I had the rear A/C on my 2013 repaired twice by the dealer. The first time the rear cooling line P.N. 23199274 was leaking and replaced. One year later, the rear evaporator P.N. 84358044 was leaking and replaced. Both repairs were very costly and luckily, covered by my extended warranty. I believe the front & rear A/C systems are independent of each other so one can work while the other is broke.

Thanks for the info - seems like a fragile setup with two vulnerable parts! Glad to hear that they are separate systems. I may leave it for now since we don't have too many 80+ days and we don't often have people riding in the way back!

Only the fans are separate. The refrigerant system is the same circuit. In other words, if there is a refrigerant leak neither will work.

Look for the air door actuator for the rear area
You would think it would work in back if the front is working but... on our 2008, when it was a little low in refrigerant due to a small leak, the rear would blow "not cold" long before the front would not. Changing the bad line and recharging fixed it. Weird, but true.
That may have been my issue also. When I took ours to the dealer the front was still somewhat working but nothing in the rear.
Good news - no leaks detected by the dealership - an inexpensive recharge seems to have solved the problem. It seemed to become more problematic since my original post. Became warmer up front too where we’d have to put it on the lowest setting for it to be somewhat cold upfront.
What do you mean by a “recharge” that fixed it? My cools in front and the back cools weirdly after sitting all night and then next time driving during the day the rear vents blow only warm air. It’s 80s now where I live.
That's how my problem started and then it became apparent that the front wasn't blowing cold anymore after a little bit of time. My dealer added more refrigerant and it solved the problem for about a year and a half and then we recharged the system again and it's been good since. Simple $150 fix each time I guess.
Some refills have a stop-leak for minor leaks
