So I recently bought a new to me car and I did not end up getting a warranty because I trusted the mechanic with paperwork on the repairs he did. 5 months later my car is broken down with a repair that I’m most definitely sure would end up more than what the car is worth. If this ends up being the case would the car end up being a Total Loss? Any input is appreciated. Just really feeling down about the car as I love it but it could end up needing a whole new engine and drivetrain. Thanks redditors
I’m in Washington state

Total loss as in you think you can claim it against your insurance like it was in an accident? Afraid it doesn’t work that way. Repairs aren’t covered by insurance unless there was an accident that caused them.

I feel your pain. Bought 2009 Enclave August 2020. October 2020 new fuses $500. November 2020 new timing chain $2,300. April 2021 new engine $6,300. Now have more invested in repairs than what I paid for it. So the question we answered.... would we buy a 2009 Enclave with a brand new motor for $18,000. Probably so. So we invested. Sad note... check engine light came on 3 days after the new motor was put in. All work done by a Buick dealership mechanic. Good luck!!

we also have the 2009 (167k - owned since 9k) based on my experience w my year, keep a spare car and buy that extended warranty, rent a car for out of state trips if it’s over 120k. or cut ur loss.
