Today when I started my Enclave up, the check engine light came on.

I used my OBD2 reader and got 2 codes : $E78:engine & $E7A

No idea what these are ... appreciate any help :help:

I don't know what they mean. But, the $ prefix makes me think that there will be some money involved in rectifying these codes.

I called the service manager at my dealership and he said he has never heard of this code.

Since I cleared it, to leave it on if it comes up again ( no doubt ) and bring it to the dealership, as my reader might not be able to read the Enclaves codes correctly.

Geesh, it worked fine with my Buick Rendezvous and it did manage to clear the codes ???

Hello kenthurgood,

We’re sorry to hear that you’re experiencing concern with an engine code from your Enclave. If you would like an additional layer of support while you work with the dealership for a diagnosis, we can certainly connect you with our Canadian Customer Care team. Please feel free to send us a private message if this is something of interest to you.

Thanks Samantha,

If the code comes up again, I will go see the dealer.

They have been more then fair with me concerning any issues I have had with my Enclave.

Those numbers are previously stored reads. is there a way to clear those reads and re-read the current status'?

I did that, then ran it again and nothing came up.

This reader says it's software is updateable ... it's made in China and I am going nuts trying to find where to update.

Oh well... I shall carry on.

 Maybe instead of clearing the previously read info, you cleared the codes that were on the vehicle. Has the CEL gone off/out? And/or has it come back on?

Well, I remote started the car this morning and let it run for 5 minutes and when I got in ... no engine light on.

I shut off and restarted and the light went out as it should.

Yesterday was the first time in over 3 months that the car went for more then stop and go city driving.

I drove down to Minnesota to pick up some things, so it was highway driven for about 40 minutes each way.

I will see what happens today with it.

Remote starting the Enclave is a sure tell tale sign if there is going to be a CEL ON when you get in it. It it won't remote start, and you get in to start it from the ignition, then the CEL will be ON. I have learned that from experience.
Keep us posted as to what happens. Understandably so on the expenditures..... Slthough a nice looking/cruising vehicle, it sure is a Bi*** to keep up with the repair costs.

Codes marked with the hexadecimal $ are part of the Mode 6 diagnostics of OBD II. Initially it wasn't designed for technician use, however it is used all the time now to determine if a component or sensor is beginning to fail or to confirm a repair rather than just waiting to see if the CEL comes back on.

Some expensive scantools will convert Mode 6 data/codes into readable language. I assume the GM Tech 2 scantool at the Buick dealer will.

Well, dealer checked and it's a P0449 Code Evaporative Emmission Vent Valve Solednoid Malfunction ???

They said vehicle is driveable and it's going in Monday for what they say is a very simple inexpensive fix. :veryhappy:

what is their definition of inexpensive?

THe part is about $30-$40- and can be changed in about 10 min. on the DI versions... since its up front.

On the 07-08s- its toward the rear of the engine..-- and I believe the part is maybe $40-$50....

unless its the one on top of the gas tank.... now you got me thinking...

The mechanic showed me where it is located.

He removed the plastic engine cover and moved something at the back of the engine.

He cleared the code and so far, the light has not come on.

if it turned on- its guaranteed it will be back.
The vehicle needs to run the test again.

This item goes bad-- when topping off the tank causes fuel to get to that part and ruin it.

I thought that the tank top mount charcoal vapor canister was the part that went bad, when it becomes fuel saturated due to over filling the tank - not the front purge valve solenoid ???
