Okay, I've test driven the Acadia and LOVED it. I especially like the HUD. Haven't bought yet waiting for the Enclave so I make sure I buy the right one for me [though I can't imagine I would be unhappy in the Acadia!], PLUS I've been waiting for my 2004 Trailblazer EXT to be not "upside down".

So finally I get some info on the Enclave and it seems that the HUD is not available!

Who else is bummed about that? or has anyone gotten any info that it will be available at some time?

Buick's quiet tuning process incorporates a special windshield. Because of this, the HUD will not reflect properly. Word is that Buick is working on a future windshield that will be HUD-compatibile.

I have a GM Vehicle that has HUD and it's wonderful. But after the novelty of it wears off, you hardly ever notice it. I think I can be just as happy with the extra quietness of the vehicle, however, it will be nice to have both someday.

hmmmm, hud vs quietness? yes, the hud is nice but not at all necessary. quietness, extremely necessary. tired of hearing everyone's loud cars including annoying music and everything else that goes on around me. these things of which sometimes when driving seem to startle me. The only thing im interested in hearing are the emergency vehicles of which i can hear while riding in the enclave.... test driving that car and all the quietness wasssssssss absolutely the best.

quietness wins hands down.

I agree that quietness is important. It's one of the reasons I was waiting to test drive the Enclave, because I figured it would be quieter. I just really liked the HUD in the Acadia and thought that it was a reasonably low priced cool and usable option, and I had already decided it would be an option I would want to get if I ordered the Enclave.

I guess it's sort of like going to a new burger restaurant and finding out that you couldn't get pickle on your burger. I guess I would not refrain from getting a burger in that case, but it sure would taste better with pickle! ;D

thanks,
kevin

I have owned both the Acadia and the Enclave (currently the Enclave)
I really like and notice the difference in quietness of the 2 vehicles; I like the extreme quiet in the Enclave.
Buuuuut I would take the HUD over the extra quiet. The Acadia was very quiet as well, just not as quiet as the Enclave. The HUD eliminates the hassle of not being able to see through the stearing wheel for speed and other bits of info. Also the HUD projected upcomeing events for the navigation system, so you did not need to take your eyes off the road if you weren't sure of the next turn. It had other bits of info that I thought to be useful too. Miss the HUD!

The HUD sounds like a neat feature especially since it shows things like song titles & Nav directions etc. However, the quiet is still more important to me as I see the Enclave as being more of a near-luxury type of vehicle and the low noise adds to that feel. We'll be coming from a much louder SUV so the extra quiet is a really nice feature for us. I'm sure the Acadia is also pretty quiet too though.
Still, I probably wouldn't pay extra for the HUD anyway so for me, I'm ok with it not being available on the Enclave yet.

Re: No HUD?! it's in the Acadia, why not the Enclave? -- Polarizing sunglasses?

I have a 2001 Park Avenue with HUD. When I bought my nice, expensive, prescription polarizing sunglasses, the projected HUD image on the windshield virtually disappeared. When wearing the polarizing sunglasses, I can see a very dim, nearly useless, HUD image only if I tilt my head sharply. I like HUD and this was a big disappointment. I hope they fix this problem with the new Enclave HUD. Do any GM workers reading this know anything about the problem?

this has been discussed in detail in an earlier subject. the enclave does not have hud due to the special laminating on the glass for the quiet tunning it will not reflect off the glass.

I also was sure that I had to have HUD. Even voted so on the poll. When I test drove an Acadia I told the sales guy to turn on the HUD for me to check out. He said that it was on. After taking off my polarized sunglasses (cheap Walmart Cocoon knockoffs) I could see it. During the drive, it was such a faint image that I decided that it's absence would not be a 'show stopper' for me ordering the Enclave.

I liked the Acadia; but really liked the look of the Enclave. I knew the Enclave was based on the same platform, so why not get the total package. Plus, the main GMC dealer around here can't keep the Acadia in stock so I got a good price for it.

Also; I have prescription glasses that are polarized, at no time did i have a hard time seeing the HUD while driving the Acadia. I also have some extra dark prescription sunglasses and no issues there either. I did notice an issue seeing the NAVI screen at times with the dark prescription sunglasses, but not the polarized prescription glasses.

polarized sunglasses are completely different lucci.

When light is reflected off certain surfaces, it becomes polarized (meaning its vibrations are aligned into one or more planes of direction). Polarized sunglasses are designed to reduce certain types of glare by absorbing the lightwaves that are aligned with slots in a chemical film on the glasses. Unfortunately, it also filters out "good" reflected light (like from the HUD), which is what lucci is referring to.

Interesting problem. Its all in the optics used. It would appear that the HUD system uses a LCD projected display based on your sunglass problem. The solution to this is either to have the HUD project in the opposite polarization by rotating the projection by 90 degrees or getting a pair of sunglasses with lenses with an opposite polarization or no polarization at all.

LOL!
...or one other interesting solution: drive with your head tilted at a 90 degree angle ;)
