Hi Everyone!!!!!!


I just picked up my car (Cocoa Metallic, CXL AWD...Luxury, and all that). I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can finally sleep....I have not slept in almost 3 months.

I paid to get the paint protector to help from getting chips and scratches. Today I just noticed a chip on the drivers door edge of the car :'( Does anyone know where we can get a small thing of touch up paint? Anyone out there that has the Cocoa color do you notice alot of chips or scratches on the color? I am so sad....it was less than 24 hours of driving it...so it concerns me a little.

The second questions is what is the +/- on the Shifter? I have been looking through my manual and can not find it. Thank you so much for any feedback. I love this site and all you are so funny! I look forward to many more posts. tam

Paint: see your dealer for touch up bottles.
Shifter: put the selecter into the "L" position. Then use the + or - to maually shift up or down. There will a read out on the dash in the DIC (drivers information center) to tell you what gear you are in. Very easy. :thumb:

The +/- on the shifter in is the gear range selector. It is used in L and replaces the "321" on older automatic transmissions. It is not a manumatic shifter or instant gear selector like everybody makes it out to be BTW, it only selects the range of gears you want to car to shift in. You use it by shifting to L and using the +/- to select the maximum gear you want to shift to. For example, if you set it to 4, that means that the car will shift normally in gears 1234, but it will not shift into 5 or 6. Other members can give you more detailed information, but this should give you a simple idea on how it works and how to use it.

GM will send you a free Touch up kit in about 2mos. I bought our Enclave June 1st and received my touch up paint in August.

I use this cool feature to downshift as I approach an exit ramp. It saves the brakes and I leave it in 3rd gear (my choice!) as I accelerate out again. Just don't forget to hit the "+" a few times to bring it into 5 or 6th gear, again! You will feel it if you forget and try to do 75MPH in 3rd gear

PS.......you can shift into the low "L", ON THE FLY, up to about 65mph , as it seems to start out in a useful 4th gear! Change it from there yourself! At very high speeds, it won't acknowledge the request to shift to "L", for engine RPM safety. You don't want to go into 4th gear at 100MPH...do you?

Congrats on the new car! I also received a free touch up paint by mail. I don't think it's automatic, though. You may want to mention the chip to your dealer.

Although it's a drag to get a chip so soon, these happen often so now you can stop worrying about the first one. Little stones etc impact your car at (say) 50 MPH so no wax or paint protection will prevent the chips. When I used to smoke, I would try not to do so in the new car, then I would only smoke with the window down, but once I saw a few ashes blowing around on the dash, I knew she was broken in and I could stop worrying about it. It makes life less stressful to just get it out of the way. Small consolation but there is always a bright side, even if a lame one.

Electronic Range Select Mode

Electronic Range Selector (ERS) mode allows you to choose the top-gear limit of the vehicle’s transmission and the vehicle’s speed while driving down hill or towing a trailer.

To use this feature, do the following:
1. Move the shift lever to LOW (L).
2. Press the plus/minus button located on the shift lever, to increase or decrease the gear range available based upon your current driving conditions and needs.

When you shift from DRIVE (D) to LOW (L), the transmission will shift to a pre-determined lower gear range. The highest gear available for this pre-determined range is displayed next to the L in the DIC. See Driver Information Center (DIC) on page 232 and DIC Operation and Displays (With DIC Buttons) on page 233 or DIC Operation and Displays (Without DIC Buttons) on page 239 for more information. The number displayed in the DIC is the highest gear that the transmission will be allowed to operate in.

However, your vehicle can automatically shift to lower gears as required by various driving conditions. This means that all gears below that number are available. For example, when FOURTH (4) is shown next to the L, FIRST (1) through FOURTH (4) gears are automatically shifted by the vehicle. You cannot shift into FIFTH (5) until the plus (+) button is used or you shift back into DRIVE (D) mode.

While in LOW (L), the transmission will prevent shifting to a lower gear range if the engine speed is too high for the gear range you are trying to select. You have a brief period of time to slow the vehicle speed. If vehicle speed is not reduced within the timeframe allowed, the lower gear range attempted will not be available. The highest possible gear that is allowed for that engine speed will display next to the L in the DIC. Try again to slow the vehicle speed and press the minus (?) button to the desired lower gear range.

Automatic Engine Grade braking is not available when the ERS is active. It is available in DRIVE (D) for both normal and Tow/Haul mode. While using the ERS, cruise control and the tow/haul mode can be used. See Tow/Haul Mode on page 133 for more information. [/color]

I am surprised your sales person did not show you how to use the + - shifter when you were testing driving or when you picked the car up..
