Rear seat DVD: dual or single screen?

20926 Views 61 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  turninggrayinpa
A long time ago, I saw a picture of an Enclave prototype and the rear seat entertainment system had two screens, one over each of the front headrests but still attached to the ceiling. Does anyone have any info if this is still true or does the Enclave still use the single overhead screen like the Acadia and Outlook?

Thanks in advance....

This is mostly speculation, but I think that was a concept-specific mockup that didn't make it into production. The pics I've seen seem to have the exact same drop down 8" screen as the other two lambdas. The concept version also had a flip-up console mounted screen in the third row as well that I believe also disappeared in the production version.
Bummer. When I test drove the Acadia, I did not really like the drop-down screen obstructing the rear view. Dual screens would have solved that plus it's less of a neck strain for the rear seat folks....
I think you can still order front seat headrest mounted screens as DIO. I saw them in the brochure.
I just stopped by the dealer last night and yes, the Enclave brochure did have the photo with the headrest DVD players! Since it is a GM accessory, I wonder if that will be available for the Acadia. ??? The salesguy (brand new) couldn't answer any of my questions but said the Enclave will show up about mid-June and he should have more info by then.
Mid June

I need it now, can't wait any longer

Absolutely. The headrests in all three Lambdas are pretty much identical, and all three list the headrest DVD players as options. Here's a picture of the Outlook with the headrest DVDs...

hmmm.... it looks like you can watch a separate DVD on each one of them. Does anyone know the cost? Also can they be used in the second row Headrest instead of first row? Or, Why not install one at each headrest in first two rows ;D

The second row headrest do not move nor come off. So they would only work in the front row headrest. I don't know the cost, but I do know you can watch different movies on each one, since the DVD slot is actually built into the headrest unit. You get headphones with them, but keep in mind they won't be integrated into the 5.1 surround sound system like the overhead DVD player is.
Prcarp, You are right about the DVD blocking the rear vision, but the Enclave with the Nav system will have the rear Camera, and they work really good and are very bright. :blob:
I spoke to a local dealer yesterday, he mentioned there will be a DIO Rear DVD system available. It will be mounted just like the factory installed but it could be removable / portable as well, you can simply remove it from the ceiling and take it along with you.

Has anyone heard or seen such DVD unit in Enclave or Acadia?
A few options coming to a GM dealer near you sometime.

Great find Canuck.

The questions never end ;D ....... so will this new system integrate with the factory option - Bose Sound system and produce 5.1 affect?

The DVD is also mentioned right on the official GMC.com Acadia accessories page

It is interesting to see that the GMC site shows the single screen, portable dvd as an option. The Buick brochure shows the dual headrest dvd as an option.

I WONDER WHY THEY WOULDN'T BE INTERGRATED INTO THE 5.1 BOSE SYSTEM ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO WATCH THE MOVIE FROM THE NAVI SCREEN WHEN CAR IS IN PARK. PERHAPS YOU CAN CHECK ON THAT AGAIN ADMIN.
No they wouldnt be able to watch it from the Nav. screen because both of the headrests have there own dvd slot so it would have no connection with the nav. and it would not be integrated into the bose 5.1 because there are two different dvds playing
I think only the Entertainment package integrates the Read DVD with Navigation system.

Perhaps all other DVD options will only ouput thru wireless headphones.
GMONEY AND COOPERMIND,

CHECK AGAIN....ALTHOUGH THE DUAL DVD'S HAVE THEIR OWN DVD SLOT THEY CAN STILL WATCH THE SAME MOVIE THAT IS PLAYING IN ONE BY THE CLICK OF A BUTTON. THE PURPOSE OF THE DUAL DVD IS SO IF ONE WANTS TO PLAY A GAME OR WATCH A DIFFERENT MOVIE THEY CAN....HOWEVER, AS I FORESTATED THEY CAN STILL WATCH SAME MOVE W/OUT HAVING 2 DVD DISCS. AND YES, YOU CAN WATCH IT FROM THE NAVI SCREEN BUT ONLY WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED.
Ummm ok!?!

Where do you find all of this out?
