my wife has about had it with her clave, 35k and needed $755 to replace all brake parts all the way around, the key fob doesnt have any range so she almost has to stand behind it to get the remote start to work and yes i have tried 3 new batteries, where is the antenna for the factory remote and has anyone else have bad range problems with there remote, i can unlock and lock at about 100' but the starter wont at that range, any help would be great, i have 2 remotes and they both suck, we ordered remote start for a reason, we live in the cold tundra and at midnight i dont like my wife having to freze [email protected]$$ off

The antenna for the remote is in the right rear area of the Enclave. There are a few posts on remotes and what you have seems to be as good as it gets. Lot of disappointed owners on the range. It does work better when you are facing the rear of the vehicle. Still take it to the dealer to see if there is any update, if so let us know.

I have the standard key fob for my '08. Last weekend, we stayed in a hotel. From the third floor window, at least 150 feet away from the car, I was able to remote start it two days in a row, with the original, used several times every day, battery in the key fob. If you aren't getting that kind of result, you should complain.
I posted this on the Acadia forum-- but here goes...
So I went out and parked my 2010 Traverse at the end of a lot-
404 ft- by placing the remote under my chin... was able to remote start.
To record the distance-- I used my Garmin (GPS watch for runners)- and walked back to the car.
By simply using the remote held out in front of me- I was able to achieve about 295- 300 ft....
My next task is to try a bigger parking lot--- as I was limited by the fence behind me when I achieved the 404 Ft.

I have the factory remote start with over two years of use on the fob's battery, and I have little trouble remote-starting my Enclave. In fact, I can start my car, which is parked in my driveway, from the basement of my home at a distance of at least 50 feet. That seems pretty good to me, since the signal must pass through the poured cement foundation. I also have no trouble remote-starting the car from a distance of about 100 feet while it's parked in a crowded parking lot at work. To accomplish this, the signal needs to pass through several parked vehicles obstructing my view of the car. Not bad, I think.

Fastercat, check on antenna placement. I have 2 way enhanced and the prep dealer did not put antenna in correctly. After correct placement it works great. BTW I was also getting bad tire pressure readings. The same antenna reads both...remote and tire sensors.
Fastercat, check page 2-5 of the Enclave owners manual (yes I am the nerd that reads them) under Remote Vehicle Start. "Laws in some communities may restrict the use of remote starters. For example, some laws may require a person to have the vehicle in view when doing so. Check local regulations for any requirements on remote starting of vehicles."
Where you live may not be the issue but I would check that before spending time and effort on "fixing" something that is a design factor. My remote start worked well from a hundred feet away while inside a house we visited this morning.

For the brake issue, you have to complain specifically about 'a pulsation' coming from the brakes... usually that will prompt the dealer to machine the rotors and clean-up the pads. Pads are under warranty for 2years/39,000km, and rotors are generally 3years/60,000km. BUT, you have to make a specific complaint about the brakes in order for them to cover it under warranty. If you go in and ask for an 'inspection' (brake inspection or 'semi-annual') then its open-season for the service department to charge you for it. I used to work in service at a GM dealer..... and thats how it works.

i have an appointment for the remotes on tuesday, there are some bulletins out there that might help and also the dealer said that it might be prepped for the 2-way remote and if it was all you have to do is buy the remote, so how do you know if it was prepped, we bought it used with 6k on it for an incredible deal so i dont know exactly what options it has other than it an 08' cx with bose system,remote start,rear park assist,power lift gate and dual sunroofs, i dont know if that was ordered like that or if it was a package, but it would be nice if i knew it was prepped, then i would just buy the remote and be done, my wife works in a hospital and works some evening shifts and what matters to me most is the the clave is warm and running when she gets in it at midnight, she says shes on the second floor and has it in view when she tries it and it doesnt work, i just tried it today in a vacant school lot and the lock unlock feature works fine at a long range but i was tried to start it from 100' and got down to 19' where it started from behind it, and that point you might as well unlock the door and start it with the key, anyone know how to check if it was prepped for the 2-way, thanks fastercat

If you call GM Customer Care and ask them for the 'vehicle build' information, the RPO code you are looking for is AP3 I believe... which is the remote start prep package. I may be wrong though... have to double check. The prep package is either AP7 and AP3 is the actual remote start system, or vice-versa.

The "enhanced" remote is dealer installed. I believe the package can be ordered with the vehicle, but the delivering dealer installs the system. There is a different receiving module (over the hatch), and an antenna which should be mounted exposed inside the car over the rear right(pass side) wheel. I assume this all can be bought and installed by a dealer after delivery, too. As I said earlier, I had problems initially, but after proper antenna placement the enhanced remote works fine.

What is the proper antenna placement? Any weblinks or pics of it? Our 10 E factory remotes will not work > 20' and the extended range is only ~30'. Help! :help:
