Wind buffeting with rear windows open! (MERGED TOPICS)

I have had my enclave for a couple of weeks now. I absolutely love the car. Although, I wanted to tell you all that have one or are buying one to remember this: When all windows are rolled up, and someone in the back / mid seat wants to rolled down their window, PLEASE crack or partially roll down another window or your sun roof. The Buffeting noise is horrible if you don't. I first experience this when I had some friends ride in my car. The gentleman in the back seat proceeded to role his window down. The buffeting suction was so bad that my ears felt like they were going to explode, and caused the sun roof window (that was shut) to suck in and out at a rapid pace. SOOO this problem can be remedied by cracking or rolling down another window so the air coming from the back window can have a place to go to. I know that SUV's in general have this issue with the back windows, but I have never heard it this bad before. When I called the maintenance/Tech department at the dealership, the info given to them on the enclave said that this was a issue and nothing can be done because it is the design on the car. Now I do not want to deter anyone from buying this vehicle. It is very much a luxury car, and it rides like a dream. I do love my car! I just wanted anyone interested to know about this if they are interested. OH and to Rocketman...if you read this...you made a wonderful choice. I have had nothing but numerous complements on this car, and it definitely beats out all other luxury vehicles in style, accessories, smooth drive, etc... You will love yours!

Re: Buffetting problems on Enclave

Actually, vent visors will help. I don't have this problem anymore since I put them on my Tahoe. You can get them at gmpartsdirect here...

Re: Buffetting problems on Enclave

I'VE SEEN THOSE...PLANNING ON GETTING THE ONE FOR THE SUNROOF BUT WAS WONDERING HOW THEY WOULD LOOK ON THE SIDE WINDOWS OF THE ENCLAVE. DONT WANT TO TAKE AWAY FROM THE BEAUTY OF THE CAR.
Re: Buffetting problems on Enclave

MsS42, If you look at my Gallery and look closely at the Split color Enclave it might give you an idea what it looks like. It's only on one half of the vehicle though.
Re: Buffetting problems on Enclave

I personally dont like cars with the vent visor things, but my truck came with them and they do come in handy!
Re: Buffetting problems on Enclave

Also the split color shows the cross rails for the roof rails. This was something we were interested in purchasing after we get ours. The window vents look okay for me, but I know some folks don't like them. We had them on our Venture just to be able to crack the windows during the day and not have the interior get wet if it rained.

Look closely. I think the passenger side has the window vents.

Re: Buffetting problems on Enclave

I added pics of the roof rails to my gallery!
Re: Buffetting problems on Enclave

this is NOT a vehicle specific problem. the dealer will have little to say aobut it, accept open the sunroof a crack, or another window. all of my other vehicles do this. (you'll notice it more above 45mph....
Something strange I noticed!!!!

I happened to be traveling at highway speeds today and put down the rear driver side window. I had a really weird compression, vibration that was created. I put the driver window up and put down the passenger window. I had the same compressive (air pressure) vibration. I put down both rear windows and the compression and vibration created was almost unbearable. Has anyone else noticed this? I do not know what is creating the sensation, but just wondering if anyone else has an issue. If not, it would indicate that there is ??? something ??? wrong with my Enclave. Just REALLY weird. Never had this issue with any other vehicle.

Let me know what you find!

Thanks,

Dan
Re: Something strange I noticed!!!!

It is wind buffeting, I noticed it a hug amount on my first drive in an Acadia. It was crazy. Acadia posters educated me on wind buffeting. Putting down an opposite window or cracking a sunroof will help. It happens in most cars. It just happens to be very pronounced in the Lambdas. It is a physics thing about air flow and stuff that I don't understand. It is not a design flaw. In fact, I noticed it today in my Accord when my 3 year old put down her back window. It was significant enough to bother me. As soon as I cracked an opposite front window, it was fine.

Maybe others are more educated on the subject but it freaked me out so much that i posted about it immediately the first time I noticed it.
Re: Something strange I noticed!!!!

It happens to some cars. The only way to prevent this, other than not opening the windows, is to equalize the pressure by letting the air escape somewhere else by opening another window or the sunroof. Play around with the windows and you'll get the right mix. ;D

Re: Something strange I noticed!!!!

the only car it has NOT happend to me on is my 06 xl but it may be so big that the air can move around better. :blob:
Re: Something strange I noticed!!!!

From what I hear it is a very common feature of SUV's. It actually "proves" what tight, well built vehicles the lamdas are.

really, i think a dealer trip in in order then, although ive been through some nasty stuff in that truck and not a drop has come through, of course i always open two windows that might be the think, or the sunroof craked and my window.
Re: Something strange I noticed!!!!

Thats a normal thing, I have expeirenced it with Nissans. I usually crack another window or lift the sunroof to create air escape.
Re: Something strange I noticed!!!!

I have have had "minor" instances of this in the past with other vehicles, but this is EXTREME! Give it a try and let me know what you think.
