2015 Enclave USB Flash Drive

2015 Enclave-USB Flash drive operation starts at the beginning with every vehicle start and turns the infotainment center on automatically even if the system was off previously.
Had vehicle to dealership and they verified this was the normal operation as the USB acts as an external hard drive which commands 'on' at start of drive. Phoned GM tech support to verify and was told the same thing. My complaint that the existing software programming was not user friendly and irritating was noted and he said my complaint would be forwarded on to the appropriate department.
Although I have not tried it yet, I understand an MP3 CD will operate the same as the USB flash drive.
Has anyone found a way around this problem?

I checked my 2014 with a stick and an MP3 players and it doesn't do like your 2015. If I turn the system off , it stays off when I restart the car. There may be a difference in the hardware or software between the two years but it seems strange it would do that. Sort of defeats the purpose of having a power button. Just curious, did you use the usb port in the small compartment just above the clock does it have one near the 12v outlet and you used that one? Not sure if it would make any difference and a second usb port, if you have one, may be for charging only.

I have gotten into the habit of turning the volume all the way down when I am turning my car off. I am hard of hearing and usually have the volume up very loud when I am driving by myself and if I forget and my wife starts the Enclave up, it scares the crap out of her. I know this doesn't fix your problem but at least it keeps the radio from "blasting" when you start your car.

Yes, things changed with the 2015 models for some reason. I have a 2015 Traverse and the USB acts the same way, always starting from the beginning when the car has been shut off and restarted.

I also checked with the service department when I was in for my free oil change. Yep, condition is normal. I'm not sure, but I think there were one or two other differences that the 2015 has. Maybe the loss of HD radio? I don't know if earlier models had it, but the 2015 doesn't.

My 2013 had a similar problem that was solved by the dealer reprogramming the unit. It now stays on the last song that was being played, instead of going to the beginning every start. There is TSB on this, not sure of the number. I am surprised to see this problem cropping up again.

I was also as I had a '13 with the same problem and software was available to correct it. Actually I told the dealer it was the same thing but apparently they have changed the unit and the software will not work in the '15.
The USB is really useless the way it is. Surely someone at GM will recognize this sooner or later and we can get the programming we need.

There was a post a few weeks ago that addressed the problem with the 2015 and the USB always starting from the beginning. It IS NOT a programing error or situation. It is the way the USB is wired and loses power when the car is shut off.

The owner who had taken his in to a pro-active dealer was able to have the dealer rewire the USB so that is does not lose power anymore. I don't recall if the post had been made here or on the Traverse or Acadia board. The dealer was supposed to be contacting GM and passing along the repair information.

EDIT-Found the topic on the Acadia board. Follow this link and in post #38 dated July 22 the fix has been found!

Interesting fix...

On a related topic--
The other day- on my Equinox (2013).
I removed the flash drive- took it inside- and put 1 new song/file on it.
Went back to the car...
popped it in...
and it began playing the song that was on before...

That surprissed me....
not only because I had removed the drive...
but also- because there was a new file on the drive.

I have emailed Amanda with the following information that appears to have fixed the problem with the USB using flash drive or memory sticks.
Those of us that are unhappy with the present setup need to make ourselves be heard by GM

I have no idea why they would design the software to do this other than an oversight. As it is, the radio's software always sees the USB as "just plugged in" upon engine start.

Cheers
It's time to celebrate!!!! My radio is FIXED!!!!

In my quote in post #14 I said;

It would seem a fix would be to keep a small amount of voltage trickling to the USB in order to keep it active. I don't expect this ever to be fixed.

I was right that voltage was the problem, wrong saying there would never be a fix. The fix was hardware related, not software as I speculated. My dealer worked with a recommendation from a GM factory representative to switch the voltage source from one that had no continuous power to one that did. Everything works perfectly now.

The biggest key to fixing this was to find someone who knows who to contact at GM. Out of curiosity I began searching other sites like this one. I found http://www.traverseforum.com/ and http://www.enclaveforum.net/ . The Enclave & Traverse are first cousins to our Acadia. Both of these sites have owners who have posted the same issue with the USB port. At http://www.enclaveforum.net/ I ran across a post where Amanda from Buick Customer Service seemed very helpful with Enclave owners. I sent her a PM describing the USB issue & asked her for help. It made no difference to her that I was an Acadia owner. She contacted a GM factory representative who had an idea how to solve the problem. The solution worked. There may be an Acadia Customer Service person but I couldn't find one. In any case the issue is fixable.

My dealer said that this fix for the USB port issue would be communicated throughout the dealer network soon.

After contacting GM about the USB port not working properly and being told it was functioning as designed; and then finding out that a guy has his fixed by a GM garage in Michigan, I contacted a GM rep on this site and the ball started rolling. I had a call from my dealership a few days ago that they had a bulletin on the problem and were ready to fix. As far as I can tell so far after the fix, the USB for flash drives is working fine now.
Thanks to GM reps Bibi and Amanda.

:mad:I am getting terribly upset with GM. I know that there are numerous safety issues that must be dealt with, but you guys are going to lose numerous customers because you are not taking care of the other issues that has the customer upset. Mine is with the USB where it doesn't play from the last song when the vehicle is shut off. I have a 13 Buick Enclave. When this radio was first installed it did work that way, then it started playing from the first song on the USB stick. All the replacement radios have played from the first song on the stick and then the tech reverses themselves and indicates that is what it supposed to do. The info on the work order are 49CVZR/RRADIO. FP Number 23441389 Description radio 9.650N. I don't know if any of the Customer Service reps know which radio this is by that information, but find someone up there that can get this radio fixed!!! My truck, a 2013 2500HD, has no problem with the radio issue. Please get these radios resolved.

Thanks
