It happened 3 time with myself alone in the car and the latest with my wife. There is no hesitation at all with the engine. It just shuts off. Thankfully it only happens while coming to a complete stop.

Thanks in advance for the VIN info.

Consider yourself lucky! It happened to me on the highway! It IS truly scary, I feel your pain and frustration. Can you imagine it happing when you're trying to cross several lanes of traffic? We are so fortunate this never happened and caused an accident.

I just sent you the VIN. I believe the repair you are looking for will be Nov. 2011.

OK, I didn't get that from your first post....you said wife and 2 year old were in the car, so I assumed that there was a reason for you mentioning who was in the car at the time. Otherwise, I don't see a difference whether it's a female or male driving. For example, I wouldn't make a point to say it was ME (a male) driving, or that I had kids in the car....either way, if it's one male, one female, a carload of multiple ages....it makes no difference, it's still a serious situation. It's just funny odd that it seems like the majority, if not all the posts about this issue tend to include (my wife was driving, or my wife and kids were with me, or had my friends in the car). Again...I would be just as pissed if this happened to me driving alone.

EDIT: Looking forward to hearing what the root cause is.

Hi Everyone,

I have an 08 Enclave. approx. 160 000 kms and I also have a Engine stalls/quits problem. It has happened a total of 4 times, inconsistently/randomly. The most recent was today. My wife was driving and had my 2 year old daughter in the car. It only seems to be happening as the E is coming to a stop at a red light. The engine just shuts off. No lights, chimes or engine codes....

We love our enclave and hopefully this can be resolved. Am I looking at an ECM or BCM issue or maybe something else entirely?

Thanks,

Tony

Tony, Hey I've been thinking more on this, you say it happens when you push on the brake and come to a stop? Wondering, do you have remote start? Perhaps it's something wrong with the part that would shut off the engine if the brake was pushed when the vehicle was remote started. Or perhaps in the ignition meaning, it doesn't recognize that the key is in. May be a stretch but I'm trying to think thru any possible reasons why this would happen only when the car is being slowed and then stopped.

Kids,

My 2010 doesn't shut off when I step on the brake. Pretty funny when I remote start, and get in, and forget that I remote started.

Just a note, I have been contacted privately regarding this issue many times, another time just today. For future reference, if anybody else has this problem you can contact me and I will supply the VIN so that your technician can see what was done for repair. [/color]

Thanks for offering your assistance. :thumb:

My 2008 Enclave stalled without warning on the 101 in LA last week. Scared me to death. It immediately restarted to only die again and again until I could limp off the freeway. Finally made it into a parking lot where it would stall repeatedly while trying to restart it. The check engine light came on after 3 stalls and so did a stabilitrak warning. I had it towed to the nearest dealership. As I was waiting I found this forum online. I was frustrated to see so many others experiencing the same scary problem as me and very few finding a solution. So after the dealership fixed my car and I have driven it another 500 miles without incidence I wanted to post exactly what was used to fix my car. Here is what was written on my invoice.

Cause: Found multiple codes with faulty throttle body and fuel pump, air inlet tube is cracked.
Correction: Replace throttle body and fuel pump, clean fuel injectors, and temporary fix for inlet tube. Tube is not available and on national back order(they did a temporary fix with duct tape)

Total repair was about $1800 with tax.

Hope this helps

Air inlet tube? Is this by the air filter area, or something else?

He didn't say AIR in his post - just inlet tube.

Would guess it's the according type tube that hooks to the TB inlet. But that's only a guess.

I'm glad you got the vehicle fixed! This doesn't sound like the same thing as mine though. I still have my VIN if any future problems occur.

Glad that it's fixed, but imho a dealership should not be using duct tape.

The prices to repair this vehicle are alarming, they are either on-par, or exceed the cost of German cars. When I think about it, it can't be parts, must be the number of hours of labor.

Come 2033 when we get a new car, it's Audi time (they'll prolly be over 200k by then)!! Rather spend repair money on a car that is fun to drive...

Hello -- I am the originator of this post and I seem to have missed several emails from folks having the same issue. For future reference I am going to leave the details of my vehicle so that repair shops can have access to the records. By inputting the VIN, your shop should be able to see exactly what was done to my car. I believe the stall issue was repaired Nov. 2011. We sold the vehicle shortly thereafter.

VIN 5GAER23718J103824

Repaired at Cavender Buick
17811 San Pedro Ave
San Antonio TX
210-490-2000

The shop manager's name is Robert Hinton. IDK if he is still there.

Thanks for sharing the information as someone out there may need that history.

Was your issue ever resolved? I’m on a 10 hour trip at the moment and my 2010 Buick Enclave has turned off 5 times, exactly how you described. Been putting in neutral to start back up after a few tries

I have an 08 Enclave CXL, 45k miles -- purchased new, no accidents or major issues ever (minor issues, yes).

This has happened to me over the last month, 4 times. Random times, various speeds, while driving I lose engine power but not electrical power, so I don't know I have a problem until I try to steer or accelerate. No warning lights sounds, nothing. I took it to the dealer and they didn't find anything wrong, they fixed a braking system malfunction and was hoping it was somehow tied into that. But the next day after getting my car back from them it does it again. Today when I took it in, the foreman actually drove it with me and it did it AGAIN (thank goodness because you know it NEVER malfunctions when they are behind the wheel, lol). He is completely dumbfounded and has never heard of this happening -- the strangest part being that no warning lights come up on the dash so that they might have a "trail" to follow to find the source of the issue.

Also, once this happens, it can be restarted immediately with no problems. In fact, after it stalled on the foreman, he shifted into neutral and restarted it while coasting.

They have it now and are going to drive it with some sort of device that is supposed to capture an image of the system, should it do it again.

Has anybody ever experienced this or know somebody that has? It has me very worried and paranoid about my safety, my passengers' safety as well as other motorists out on the road.
This exact thing is happening now with my 2013 Enclave. What did you find out about the problem?

Did you ever figure out what was wrong with your Enclave? I have a 2012 that we had the timing chain replaced and a month or so after that mine started doing what yours did, engine shutting off , no codes etc. it does it all the time now so we can’t even drive it, had it to a mechanic and the dealer neither had any luck.id appreciate any guidance you could give as now I have a 2 ton yard ornament And I’d really like to have my car back.

Did you ever figure out what was going on with your car? My Enclave has been parked for well over a year now with this same issue, we’ve had it to 3 mechanics 1 dealer and no one can figure out what is wrong with the car. We had the timing chain replaced and it started shortly after that.
