Highbeam out - Complete headlight replacement?

I've used this forum with help in regards to my 2010 Enclave. I searched the sight for an issue that came up during a service call yesterday but did not find a specific answer. My wife was told that the passenger side high beam was out and that the assembly needed to be replaced ($1,125 + $144 labor.) I haven't been able to discuss this with the service department, but I have a hard time imagining that a bulb replacement wouldn't be the first step. Is there something special about these headlights? Thanks for your help. We haven't had any issues with the service department (of course the extended warranty just ended.)

Could it be this Enclave has the articulating headlight option, and because of that requires the entire assembly replaced? Even the standard headlights on the Enclaves use some sort of motion of the beam to switch to high beams. Not sure how it all works, but the complexity of the set up could cause the price to be high to fix.....but those prices sound way above rational.

After further discussion, the low beam stays on when the high beam is switched and the rationale was that the headlight system on that side isn't correct and should be replaced. I'll replace the bulb - thanks for the reference to the site. I'm curious if this diagnosis has merit or not since I'm not familiar with the complexity of the Enclave's?

I believe with the HID that there is no low or high beam bulb, it is only one bulb. I think there is a hood/cover that is lifted when you switch to high beams that allows the light source its full throw vs a closer cut off that occurs with low beams. I think you will need to replace the unit, unless you decide to take it all apart and tinker with it. A bulb change will not fix your issue. Ebay has a lot of options in the $300 range.

On the other hand how often do you use your high beams and is it worth the cost.

ebay is your friend.

I recall seeing a video somewhere of that little flap--- almost like an eyelid--- that opens higher- to give Hi beam.
