Thank You rbarrios,
I'm closing in on 50,000 on my Enclave. With all the trans. talk, changing the fluid has been on my mind. We take a lot of trips to Fullerton (our son and daughter live in the zoo) and Mar Vista so I know what you mean when you mention L.A. driving! I grew up in Reseda. Your description is very informative and helpful. I will be using your technique next month after a little road trip on the 405!! I sure will be glad when construction is done on our infamous 405. Thanks again rbarrios.

I'm happy to report that the trans fluid change was easier than the oil change I did at the same time...seriously! And the tip to get the long funnel was a great tip...super easy to do that fluid change. THANK YOU! And, I did it for $40. The dealership wanted just over $180. Why can't all manufacturers just incorporate that nice drain plug in all transmissions? The only problem is that the fluid change didn't cure my problem with the delay in shifting into drive. I was hopeful, but no luck. I should also mention that there was no chunks or any particles in the old fluid. Also, I recovered about 5.1 qts from the initial draining of the old fluid, and put back in 5 even, so I don't think I'll do the second drain and refill since it looks like I recovered most of the old fluid anyway.

Next question I may have for you will be on the leak I discovered while under the car that seems to coming from somewhere around the power stearing fluid reservoir and dripping down onto the ps arm. Always something with this thing...

Thanks rbarrios!! Draining the trans fluid was easier than changing the engine oil.

This is the second time your posts have helped me out. The first was when the lumbar support motor on the driver's seat went out.

Thanks again,
sonexer

HAHA on my other other forum, some folks have forgotten to ensure their fill plugs can be opened (manuals), and have drained the gear oil out through the drain plug, and been unable to put any oil back. I'm not laughing at their expense, just trying to mention that even if something is easy, look before you leap anyway....

I wouldn't want to be stuck in a predicament in which all off the transmission fluid were drained, but none could be added back due to a stuck fill cap. I wonder what percentage of first time DIYers run into this problem?

was it the lambda or theta forum
Someone did an 'oil change'

Once the oil change was done- they started car and it wouldnt move.

problem 1- no trans fluid.
problem 2- engine now has twice the oil.

So I just checked the fluid level with the engine hot. I plan on draining it in the AM when I have more time. Do I get any more fluid out if the transmission is warm or can I just drain it cold?

It would seem that the fluid temperature does impact how much drains out. I only got about 4 quarts with a cold transmission. Oh well. I'll do it warm next time.

No.

some are semi synthetic.

some are full synthetic.
Yes...I meant all those synthetic products vs. each other and all those semi-synthetic products vs. each other. Don't want to mix apples and oranges.

Just serviced my transmission today. I found an out-of-the way parts store that sells Valvoline VI Full Synthetic for $6.79 qt and bought 12. Thanks for the pictures and instructions rbarrios. I doubt I would have attempted this without them. Drained hot and removed about 5.75 qts and will drain and refill in 300-500 miles. Thanks Again.

Hoe to check transmission oil level 2015

I just did a drain and fill, I only got out 3.8 quarts. I added in 4 quarts only. Manual commends 5.3 quarts. I check the level using the dip stick after running couple of errands to make sure car is hot. Level was below the hashed area on the dip stick (low). Car was level at the time of level check. Before I add more oil in wanted to make that the car suppose to be hot and engineering running at the time of level check? Any advice?

interesting... had you noticed any odd operation?

I always drain and simply refill with 5.3
