Way above my skill set, or nerve or patience.

Congrats on getting most of your intended work done ... long day, no doubt.
It was fun. I am glad with the results, but not the time it took to do the work. Yes, long day. I was in bed at 9:00. ZZZZZZ

I too have been inspired by Rbarrios and will be doing a transmission drain & fill in the near future.

I've searched everywhere, and cannot find any Valvoline Dex 6 fluid here in T.O. Our local stores have Mobil Dex 6... I'm assuming no difference between brands?

I may also tackle my plugs eventually.. I've already got my hands on some NGK plugs, and am sourcing an intake manifold gasket. My question is which one does the 2011 Enclaves use? The 1 piece gasket (shown in this vid: https://youtu.be/bAKvL12mhVc ), or the 2 piece like cfedor has on his? Is his different because his is a 2008?

Purportedly, when Dex 6 first came out, a lot of it was semi-synthetic rather than full synthetic. Valvoline was one that was supposedly full synthetic, and it was cheaper as well. Walmart sells it here so it's readily accessible and is what I buy. I wouldn't worry about using any major brand of Dexron 6.

Good day all...

I changed my trans fluid at about 50k or 70k...can't remember.

Wanting to do it again; now at 130K, but cant find the Valvoline fully synthetic locally.

Trided : Advance, O'riley's, AutoZone & Nappa with no luck.

Found ACDelco 10-9243 Dexron VI Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid - 1 qt on Amazon for $8.32
https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-10-9243-Synthetic-Automatic-Transmission/dp/B01EGOR5JO/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_263_lp_t_4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=EP60GJ5Q4WCAC0GCMV9Y

Has something changed to make it disappear ?

What is recommended now ?

Thanks

I believe Menards carries it if you have one near you.

Ordered mine thru Amazon last year.

Can the car be on ramps when changing the transmission fluid? Unfortunately I'm not as slim as I used to be, and likely won't be able to slide under the vehicle while its just sitting there to get to the plug.... but I do have some rubber ramps that I've had for a few years -- Is it ok to drive it up and elevate it approx 8"?

Will the elevation allow all the (available) fluid to drain out when I pull the plug? If weather holds up this weekend up here in Toronto, I'm planning on doing the trans, rear diff and transfer case fluids!

yeah, should be fine.
.... of you can jack up half the vehicle and then put it down to let it drain.

The plug may even be within arms reach...

Completed a drain and fill today -- once again THANKS TO RB. Without his post and details, I likely wouldn't have tackled something like this due to lack of knowledge. Even listing the wrench size (7/16th) was helpful as it allows me to easily find which nut I'm looking for as there are a BUNCH under there.

I drained approx 4.2L, and refilled with approx 4.3L. I let it drain for almost 20mins, front end was on a very slight incline, yet thats all I got out? Old fluid was very dark, no hint of red anywhere.... did not have any smell to it which I guess is a good thing. It didn't smell burnt.

When I drained my fluid I let it drain with the vehicle level. Then I lifted up each wheel with the jack and even more fluid came out. I have the Helms manual, and it states to put in 5 quarts. I figured lifting each wheel got the most fluid out. After driving for 5 miles or so, I checked the fluid level and it was perfect.

Newbie here but just bought a very used 09 with 143k on it. I did my first tranny fluid change and oil change this weekend. The tranny fluid was BLACK and so was the oil. I don't think this thing was taken very well care of. Wife and I are on the Dave Ramsey plan so we don't buy it unless we pay cash so it is old with miles on it. Thanks so much for this write up and all of the others. I read this and so many more on here last week before I tackled it. I just wasn't setup to post yet!

Did the drain and refill and all went well. 5 1/2 quarts came out and refilled with AC Delco ATF I got from Amazon at $30 for 4 quarts.

Thank you for all the info on this thread and everyone who contributed.

What are the symptoms of slightly overfilling the transmission with new fluid? I did a drain/refill and the transmission is shifting slightly harder. I checked the level with the stick and when HOT, the fluid passes the crosshatch and reaches all the way to the the T.

When I did the refill, I think I drained about 5 1/4 quarts and and refilled with 5 1/2.
Is it okay to take some fluid out from the dipstick tube?

Advice is appreciated.
